Oleg Kudriashov (Олег Кудряшов, 1932–2022) was a Russian printmaker and draughtsman who turned the drypoint print into three-dimensional sculpture. He joined the Moscow Union of Artists in 1961 and emigrated to London in 1974, returning to Moscow in 1997 after nearly a quarter-century abroad.
Prints that become constructions
From 1978 Kudriashov developed his signature method: running drypoint plates through the press, adding watercolour and gouache, then cutting the sheets into geometric shapes and interlocking them into relief constructions that leave the wall.
Collections
His work is held by Tate and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the National Gallery of Art and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, LACMA, the Pushkin Museum and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
