Tatiana Nazarenko (Татьяна Назаренко, born 1944, Moscow) is a Russian painter known for large, theatrical narrative canvases and, later, for room-scale figurative installations. She trained at the Surikov Institute, where she went on to lead a painting workshop, and is an Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts.
History as stage
Working partly within official Soviet structures while pushing her subject matter, Nazarenko turned to historical and allegorical scenes charged with crowds and masks. Her installation Transition (Central House of Artists, Moscow, 1996) filled a hall with more than a hundred life-size cut-out figures of ordinary passers-by.
